Jordan Pouncey’s cousins, Maurkice and Mike, both starred as Florida Gators, but it does not appear that the 3-star athlete from Winter Park, Fla. will be following in their footsteps.
Pouncey committed to Notre Dame on Saturday, according to reports, just days after telling SEC Country that he had no timetable for a decision.
“When I was a little kid I use to watch the movie Rudy at least once a week,” Pouncey said, according to Andrew Rivins of Rivals.com. ”Just with the prestige of not only the university but also the football program … It’s something else.
“They play a national schedule. They are a national contender every year and that’s something that I really like. It’s not too flashy, but it’s not plain. It’s Notre Dame and that’s the only way that I can explain it.”
Pouncey, who plays both as a wide receiver and defensive back, is expected to play on the offensive side of the ball, according to the Rivals report. That’s the position Pouncey prefers.
“It’s a blessing that I can do both sides of the ball,” Pouncey told SEC Country. “I’m just going to play with the chips I’m dealt. If I play corner, so be it. If I play receiver, so be it. I do enjoy cornerback quite a bit, I just don’t enjoy it as much as receiver.”
